Re: Lillard's Independent KY Scouts and Rangers

The challenge would be to locate Travis A. Smith after his brief association with Capt. Lillard. Before the Battle of Shiloh, William W. Lillard led a group of men called "scouts and rangers" who may or may not have been from Kentucky. Thet were attached to Duckworth's 7th Tennessee Cavalry. Lillard himself came from Meigs County TN. During the summer of 1862 Lillard organized a cavalry company which became Co. "I", McKenzie's 5th Tennessee Cavalry Regt. He served with that command as captain until the war's end.

The name Travis A. Smith also appears in Federal units raised for military service in the State of Tennessee. Where did he live in 1860?
