I have seen a "pic" of the NARA Pension application.
Here is the info on that -

State/Arm Of Service: [Null]
Company/Regiment: [Null]

Collection Title: Civil War Pensions

It shows him to be in Carroll county KY and an invalid.

Thought about trying to get the file from NARA, but not sure how to do that. Does NARA have Confederate files or Union or both?
Any thoughts?

He was listed in the 1860 Carroll county KY as a "provost agent". Not sure what that means.
