I have Travis as 56yrs in the 1860 Carroll County KY census. So at first I thought him too old to serve...but found him in the NARA files in the same county in 1880...If he were in the "Scouts and Rangers" perhaps the function he served was not actually "ground troops", but scouting? Disguise - an old man of 60~yrs? Any info would be appreciated. THANKS!
