2nd Kentucky (U.S.) Cavalry Regiment --
"Near Bardstown in a charge upon the enemy it siffered severely in killed and wounded, and in a counter charge Maj. [Elijah S.] Watts, Capt. [Monroe] Bateman and Lieut [William] Arthur were captured."

Lt. Arthur belonged to Co. "B" and Capt. Bateman to Co. "L".

On page 655, Hafendorfer writes,

As Wharton's men fell back through Bardstown, they passed the Newman residence. Here at the front gate Miss Josie Newman was standing, clapping her hands as she saw the Confederates fleeing. But when she recognized a Federal prisoner, Major Watts of the 2nd Kentucky, riding behind one of the Rangers, his face badly bruised and his uniform torn and soiled, she turned and, with tears in her eyes, went back into the house.

According to the footnote, that account was taken from The Life Record of H. W. Graber, A Terry Texas Ranger, 1861-1865, Privately Published, Dallas, 1916. Henry W. Graber belonged to Co. "B", Terry's 8th Texas Cavalry Regiment. The book is avalable today --
