Was there more than 1 encounter at Bardstown, Ky. i.e. June/July 1864? My ancestor Lt. Furney Green Driskill with Co. I, 48th. Ky. Inf. Union army was arrested then court martialed for his actions in Bardstown, Ky. This by the offical Union records, however the handed down family version is that after appeal(with letters of support by leaders in Bardstown the court marshal was reversed. I have copies of correspondence but have not been able to confirm the reversal.

He was notified of an advancing Confederate unit, telegraphed Louisville, Ky. which confired the intell. Lt. Driskill was told to hold the town but reenforcements could reach him in time due destruction of railways. Soon after this confirmation/instructions the telegraph wires were cut. When the Confedrate forces arrived Lt. Driskill's forces were out numbered approximatly 4 to 1. He was offered terms to surrender to fight another day or his troops would be put to the sword. He then surrendered leading to the charges.

I have a copy of his picture in uniform and know of his burial site in Muhlenberg, Ky.

Could anyone help me with info regarding this incident or any information on his unit? Copies of records that I have show him to be present Oct.-Dec. , 1863 commissioned 10-5-1863, present Feb.-May, 1864. "Absent in arrest at Louisville, Ky.by order Lt. Col.T.B. Fairleigh" Aug. 1864 "Present"
Sept. 1864 "Present with detachment at Madisonville, Ky. Oct., 1864 "Dismissed from service by sentence (?) Geal. C.M.& sentence approved by Maj. Gen. Schofield.

I have been unable to find out futher info on this matter in my travel to Washington, D.C., Frankfort, Ky., and corrsponding with the U.S. Army as well as the U.S. War Department.

What ever the out come was it what it is, I would like to lay it to rest.
