this sounds like the action that may of taken place in the livery stable when Capt. Hynes was in charge July 5, 1863 when they held up Morgan's men from advancing on the Great Raid. 31 federals surrendered to Morgan's men after holding them at bay for several hours. this is on North 3rd Street in the 200 block, there is a marker there describing the action. the group they captured was the 4th U S Cavalry. after this period their basically was only guerilla action by Magruder, Berry, and Quantrill in this area. John Hunt Morgan came thru Nelson County on at least 6 occassions. will look for Driscoll info . Joe Masterson www.civil-war-museum.org
