Wayne thanks,I think judging by the article it says Soldiers Home moneys were lost in 1866 in LA..I assume this means at least Federal aid,State continuing,or possibly on your own with the onset of the reconsrtuction gov..That leeds me to think a pension was all you were intitled,given.My guess is pension moneys came from the states with no Federal aid.If you needed long term care your pension,could at least,help subsidies that care.The families bearing the brunt.I think at least in my case the State brought the headstone....
