Re: Confederate Soldiers Home
In Response To: Re: Confederate Soldiers Home ()

I only found this posting just now - about 8 months after everybody stopped writing about Camp Nicholls Soldiers' Home - so it may be that no one is interested anymore. But I am doing some research into Anglo-American relations during the Civil War - one of the more interesting people I have come across is Mary Sophia Hill, the first matron of Camp Nicholls who was dubbed by the COnfederate Veteran, the 'Florence Nightingale of the Army of Northern Virginia' (aren't they all?). The CV says she worked without pay until funds were found for the Home. After her retirement she moved up north to be with a nephew.
Does anyone know anything more about her?
Sincerely,
Amanda Foreman
