Dear Captain Hall,
I am looking for informatin on my great grandfather, Robert Edwin Smith, aka Rufus. He was born on 12/9/1836 in Pointe Coupee, LA and at 18 went to New Orleans and entered Jackson Medical Institue for 4 yrs. In the spring of 1862, he joined the confederate army as a private and served 1 1/2 yrs in the medical corps. He was taken prisoner and brought to Ft. Morton, IN POW camp where he was confined until the close of the war (he was employed as a presciption clerk while in prison). He was in the 2nd Louisiana Cavalry, Company B. How can I find any other information on him. I would most appreciative of any information you have. Thank You, Sharon
