MS Garcia and Johnny Reb

The 2nd Louisiana Cavalry certainly had a large representation from south Louisiana (South central and southwest), who were critical to the regiments functioning. I think it is more correct to say, however, that it was formed with men from western Louisiana. Half of the 10 companies were the five companies of Breazeale's Battalion (2nd LA Cav companies B, C, D, E, and F), which were filled early on by men from Natchitoches, Sabine, De Soto and Bienville Parishes of northwest Louisiana. Also, Co G was from Rapides Parish in central Louisiana and Co A (Captained by James D. Blair) had a reasonable representation of men from Natchitoches and De Soto Parishes.

In any case, they all served Louisiana and are to be remembered and honored.

Hope this helps.
