Bruce, thank you for your input.

It was J. F. Dalton who claimed to be Jesse James years later. Before his claim to being Jesse, he claimed he was Billy the Kid. He claimed he rode with Quantrill, and that there wasn't a black flag. I don't believe he and Kit were related, at least, I haven't found anything stating that they were.

Jim Lunn's information, is all that I have. The only other information I have on Jack Swartz is that he was supposedly 16 at the time of the Lawrence Raid, and that in 1898, died at Las Cruces, New Mexico.

True, one has to read, research, and weigh all information before one can come up with something close to the truth. There were a lot of what we now call "wannabees", that took part in everything, when sometimes they just heard about the event. When two or more people are involved, each has their own opinion, and there lies the problem. That is one reason I love these message boards and lists, because I have learned so much. We will never know it all, but it is fun learning!

You mentioned Foster as fighting to rid the country of the guerrillas, yet it was a guerrilla (Cole Younger) who saved Foster and his brother from being killed by the guerrillas. Foster and his brother were left behind because they were thought to be mortally wounded.
