Kirby: Negro Wool Swamp, also called the East Swamp, was the swamp located east of Crowley's Ridge. It ran generally north-south from just below Cape Girardeau to the area of Helena, Arkansas. While it varied in width, depending on the flood stage, it was 25 miles wide in places.
