Kirby: I have not heard of either Dogskin Swamp or Elk Chute. I would say that if the references are to an action in Cape Girardeau, Dunklin, Stoddard, Scott, New Madrid, or Pemiscot counties that is the Negro Wool Swamp.

Of course, west of Crowley's Ridge, in parts of Bollinger, Stoddard, Butler and Wayne counties, there was/is the Mingo Swamp.

The place names you mention just don't ring a bell with me.
