Poindexter men from Macon Co

My family lived near Elmer in Macon Co., due west of La Plata.

Daniel Herrin had two cousins and an uncle from Macon Co., Mo that joined the Missouri State Militia in 1861. Two were in the 4th Regiment, 3rd Division. The third was in the 5th Regiment, 3rd Division. They fought in Drywood, Lexington and Elkhorn Tavern.

Poindexter led the colsolidated 4th and 5th Regiments of the 3rd Division during the battle of Elkhorn Tavern.

I found the information on the cousins and uncle in the National Archives in Washington DC. Because the Missouri State Militia was not yet part of the Army of the Confederacy, the Militia information was listed on a card at the end of the records. You might want to order the service records to see if your relative was with the missouri Militia.
