Don,

I surmise the group you are referring to in your latest post is the Germanna Colony of 1717. Am I correct? If so, I was wondering if certain of Quantrill's partisan rangers were descendants of these German colonists, specifically Bill Yowell, Richard Yager and Jefferson Wilhite. Johannes Breyhel (John Broyles), one of my ancestors, was a member of this group. His daughter, Catherine, married Adam Wilhite, also a German colonist, and as a result became the "grandmother" of a major portion of all the Wilhites who reside in the United States today. Members of the Germanna Colony of 1717 started out in Virginia as indentured servants to Colonel Alexander Spotswood, a British colonial governor. Later on the Germans built the Hebron Lutheran Church located just north of Madison, Virginia. This church is the oldest continuously operating Lutheran Church in the United States. Anyhow, if you have time, I would appreciate you filling me in on the connection between Germanna Colony immigrants and their descendants who rode with Quantrill.

Many thanks.

Larry
