Re: Col.Philips report on Indian Troops

Hi Jim,

I just posted on the other site. In every war major strategic mistakes are made and the CW was no exception to the rule. Logistics was the bane of the CSA. Even some of the the best CSA troops the Army of Northern Virginia had to march barefoot to Gettysburg. The CSA units may have suffered from institutional rascism in the same sense has the USCT which was not always employed effectivly and suffered from a lack of good leadership. I don't know if the CSA Indian units in the long term could of kept the Union forces out of the present day state of Ok. The Union had more and better equipped and supplied troops but the CSA's best ally was incompetent Union leadership and the Western Theatre was not an exception. The Union could always replace their loss by sending recuiters to the UK recruiting more Afro-Americans and a higher population base an option the CSA did not have and eventually Union leadership did improve.
