The September 17, 1864 edition of the Weekly California News contains the following article: "We learn that two citizens, farmers, of Cooper County, Wm. Henshaw and Wm. McClanahan, were shot and killed by Federal soldiers, on Monday. Both the men were worthy citizens of high character. We are not informed of the cause or provocation of the act. We learn several others of the most respectable citizens of Cooper County have also been killed within a few days past." Does anyone know the identity of any others killed? Does anyone have information regarding the killers or the context of these incidents?
