Thank you Bruce so much for filling in that detail. I appreciate the information. He is related to me through my Gramlich/Brenneisen side and the Johannah (Brenneisen) Johnson Diefenbach Diel/Deil Twenter who was his wife is my 3rd great grandmother Caroline Brenneisen Gramlich's sister. Jacob Diel had three step daughters Margaret (1847), Apolonia "Polly" (1849) and Caroline "Carrie" (1854) at this time --and two natural daughters Maria Eva (1857) or even Maria Theresa Diel (1862). Either of them I suppose could have been the little girl walking with him. A sad, sad incident for the family I am sure.
