Bruce: A couple of entries in Carolyn Bartels "Civil War Day by Day" also reference this period. Entry September 1, 1864. . . Tipton was attacked by about 42 Confederates at 6:00 this morning killing two townsmen. They left in the direction of their suspected target, Boonville. Entry September 10, 1864. . . This day saw a skirmish at Pisgah (Cooper County) Confederate Commander Captain Taylor, described as a new man on the south side of the river, encountered Lt. Kerr of the Militia about five miles northeast of Pisgah this evening. Kerr managed to kill four and would several others before the horses gave out in pursuit. Thanks for the lead on the book. John
