Larry,

Thank you ever so much for the Cornell.edu link. I find that in some instances that the spelling of his name is Ballow. I wonder if that is a variation of Ballou, or, what. I see it most often as Ballou in most accounts, but have seen it Ballow. I have a friend who is into genealogy and he put Logan in to a searchable version of the old Ballou family history written in the late 1800's. It is called BALLOU's IN AMERICA, quite an exhaustive work for it's time. Think that he got it in CD form. Had President Garfield's mother and everyone else under the son, preachers, the founder of Tufts University, and either the founder, or, the editor of the Boston Globe, but he could not find a "Logan" by searching that text.

He told me that the Ballou family came to America in the early 1640's and settled with Roger Willams. Most of them who went south ended up spelling their name Ballew, and from there on a wide range of spelling ensued.

Wonder why he is not in the Ballou's in America? They were pretty hardcore Republicans and rabid Lincolnites. Wonder if he was left out for that reason, or, if his family didn't respond when they were sending out queries during the assembling of that book for their own reasons?

Thanks, again!
