Re: Capt. Logan Ballew served under Poindexter

Kirby,

What extensive information! I cannot thank you enough. We now have three spellings of his name. Ballow, Ballou, and Ballew. Since many of the Ballou's who went south after the family settled in Rhode Island began to have their name spelled Ballew, I wonder if many of the Ballew-Ballou's were left out of the Ballou's In America exhaustive family history that was published in the late 1800's because if the name was Ballew, they were southern, and the Ballou's were pretty staunch Union men.

He certainly was tenacious. As far as being a guerrilla, or, bushwhacker, that was not my description of him, but a description in an account that I had read of him. I guess it depends on which side you were on if Quantrell, Reeves, Hidlerbrand, and Ballou were just rebels, or, "bushwhackers." Thank you for providing detailed information on his regular activity in, or, with the Confederate Service.

I have learned a lot from this thread on Logan Ballou (Ballow - Ballew).

Thank you so very much.
