Thank you, Jim. Ballew is one of the spellings for the Ballou family name of those who left the Rhode Island area and went south. At least that is what I understand from a good friend who is into genealogy.

I do believe that after he was released this time, he was later captured and sent to Gratiot prison in St. Louis. Not sure what happened then.
