Mark, Rose, & Bruce,

Did you find an answer to your question? My thought is that perhaps the entry date is wrong, or perhaps was written later in reflection and included the later fact of the attack on Nov 5, 1862. My 3great-grandfather, John Y. LeMasters was killed in that battle on 5 Nov. (MO Cavalry, 8th regiment, Co I) according to military records.

I would like to learn more about the battle if any of you have more information on it. I know Quantrill was expecting backup from the north that did not come, that it started about 10:00 and the Union soldiers retreated to the courthouse. I understand the battle was between 1.5-2 hours (with about 30 minutes holding the Union troops in the courthouse?) and on their retreat, Quantrill's men burned 1/3 of Lamar.

I think John Y. LeMasters (LaMasters) was buried in Lamar, but I do not know where. Would any of you have more information?
