Re: Dr John Benson executed guerrilla

Bruce, many thanks for your reply. I will get the book through Interlibrary Loan, the first 2 I have (and did not mention in my post). FYI, the story of Dr Benson helps my family to understand some very cryptic remarks made by our grandfather about his father's Confederate service and times in Saline County. Dr Benson was raised and lived with the family of Daniel T Guthrey at least for a few years. D T Guthrey was the father of John W Guthrey the veteran who was my grandfather's Dad by a 2nd marriage after the war. Although my grandfather was born in Saline Co long after the war, the family left there in 1901, he evidently heard and was told of many events of the war years. He related to me his personal meeting with Frank James at a Beaumont TX railroad station not too long after the move from Saline Co. We were told things like "a man did what he had to do to protect his family in those years", "you did what you had to do to survive", and "we were burned out several times". Now I think we have a little bit clearer picture of some rough times. I appreciate your help.
