Re: POW Executions I missed

I have studied volume 13 of the OR with an intensity I have never given anything else in my years of research. It never ceases to amaze me how much mis-information is in this volume. In studying the string of messages between 7 - 9 Aug 62 it seems clear to me that there are materials deliberately left out from other sources. I have been looking for the personal records of Lewis Merrill for a number of years for my ongoing research into the 7th US Cavalry. At the time Volume 13 was written or more accurately being worked on Lewis Merrill was the 3rd Major in the 7th U.S. Cavalry. Having missed the Little Big Horn he was at that time working for President Grant in the Carolina states finding and suppressing the KKK and other anti-government organizations. Anything that might discredit Merrill would be bad for the administration. In other areas of Volume thirteen I have found orders and issued letters that were not included or incomplete in the volume that would have clarified the incident or battle, e.g. Newtonia, Lone Jack and others; but I had to dig out this information from sources where one doesn't usually find anything. Therefore if I am correct in my thinking, we find Lewis Merrill's order books and journal, we will certainly learn much more than what we do know from the conglomeration of information found in Vol. 13.
