In Response To: Executions in NE MO Fall 1862 ()

Hey Craig,

How have you been? It's been some time since we communicated with one another.

Here's another execution to add to your list. Around August 2, 1862 a trooper named Gross from an EMM unit from the vicinity of Breckinridge commanded by a Ed T. Gudgell ordered the execution of four Southern boys some of whom rode with Capt. John L. Mirick. The names of the Southern boys were ____ Black, ____ Austin, ____ Walden and Green Wallace. The execution took place on the Chillocothe and Brunswick Road. The EMM firing squad's markmanship was not too keen. Only one of the Southern boys was killed on the first volley. Two of the others required subsequent shots to the head to finish them off. Green Wallace wasn't hit by anyone, but wisely feigned his death. After the EMM men left the scene, Green Wallace escaped and found safety among partisan families. He then went on to survive the war.
