The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Re: H. Bledsoe

I'll try to summarize from what I've found on Hyram/Hirem/Hiram M Bledose.

First entry is Capt Hyram M Bledsoe found as Capt of a company he raised listed as Co G. 5th Infantry, 8th Division MSG. This company is dissolved Springfield Missouri in the reorgnaization of the 8th Division per Confed Archives Chapter 1, Vol 107, page 302.

He is reported as wounded on September 2 1861 at Drywood MO.

He then is listed as Capt. Hiram M Bledsoe elected June 11th 1861, age 34, native of Kentucky, Co A. 1st Rgt Art. 8th Div (Rains) MSG, Lexington MO

He is then found on a F&S roll for the 6th Missouri Infantry as Lt Col, then Col Hiram M Bledsoe commission Dec 31, 1861 at Lexington MO. It lists his age as 34 and a nativity of Kentucky. His next entry for that unit is as Col Hyram M Bledsoe wounded Elk Horn, Ark March 6,7,8 1862. (Note that this unit 6th Infantry matches Rice L Wood's biography entry.)

He signed for salt at Camp Priceville Aug 8th 1862.
Next is a muster roll for Bledsoe's Light Battery Memphis TN dated Sept / Oct 1862 with an Enlistment date of Apr 21 1862. ( I take it this is the date of CSA enlistment from the MSG.)
Letter to Genl Moore dated Sept 10th 1862, Camp Salito "Sir my company was sworn into Confederate service for the duration of the war at Camp Memphis about the middle of April.... the rest at Corinth, all remain with battery except 4."

He signed a forage requisition order Feb 6 1863 and April 16th 1863 at Port Hudson
He asked for 64 pairs of pants, 104 pair drawers,.... and 74 hats for his company at Vernon MS on June 27, 1863.
I then find a special requisition for 5 curry combs signed by him as Capt. Commanding Light Battery, fulfilled Enterprise MS Aug 18, 1863
He is then found on a muster roll Bledsoe's Company, Palmer's Battalion Light Artillery. not dated.
He is listed as Capt Bledsoe's Co. , Martin's Battalion Light Artillery in Sept / Oct 1863. He is listed as absent from the same unit on the Nov/Dec 1863 roll with notation that he was given a leave of absence dated August 25th 1863 and had it extended while in Richmond (VA).

He signed a forage requisition order May 1st 1864 at Army of Tennessee. Another on June 1st 1864.
He then pops up on an Inspection Report dated Aug 1864, Atlanta GA. then again on Sept 20th 1864 at Palmetto GA with a note "Commanding Hotchkiss Battery of Artillery, Hardee's Corps. "

He bought a set of saddle bags at Macon GA on Feb 20th 1865.
His parole statement is signed "Millican, Tex" 3rd July 1865 as H. M Bledsoe, Capt, Light Battery, 1st Missouri (note the inference to the MSG designator)

This is a general time line and info from his CSR without duplicating date and locations.
