Warder Church Site
In Response To: Re: Warder Church ()

I found the church shown on page 8 of the 1877 "Atlas Map of Lafayette County." It is indicated as being located in the southwest portion of Section 23. In comparing the site in the Atlas to google maps, you follow County Road 56/Shady Lane south until it turns due east. Looking at the google satellite image, there are now two residences there at that corner. One is located on the highway, the other is at the end of a dead-end driveway that goes around a hundred yards to the southwest from the corner. In the 1877 map, that driveway did not dead-end--it was a road that continued on to the southwest paralleling the Sniabar until the road intersected with the main road that headed due south out of Wellington. The church was along that road that no longer exists, and to the southwest, maybe a couple hundred yards, from that second present-day house. Looking at the satellite image of the area and zooming in, the old road does exist as tracks a part of the way across a farm field. I see no evidence of the church though. Maybe if you went and knocked on the doors of those two houses the residents might be able to help out. The second house would be the one to focus on in regard to getting permission to access the church site on what is now private property.
