Re: Warder Church Site
In Response To: Warder Church Site ()

Thanks for the info, I decided since the weather was so nice today (Thursday) to go look for the site. I used the map image that was posted. I went to the first house as suggested and got no answer, went to the second, the one that sits about one hundred yards from the road. Met a very nice lady and inquired about the Church, she told me she knew nothing about the location and she wished she could help me. I got the impression I have not been the first visitor to ask about the Church, maybe she does know and was just to nice to tell me NO!! I couldn't go look lol.. Anyway I got back home and pulled up the location on Google Earth and according to the report of Operations in the vicinity of Wellington, Mo. July 9-13, 1864. It states that the church was two miles distant. When I used the ruler on Google earth, the distance from the intersection of highway 224 & 131 (the stop light at the business district) the distance to the house and area mentioned in this thread is only 1.25 miles. If I use the two miles as a marker it puts the location further south/southeast, I guess I will continue to search. Also does anyone have the names pertaining to the Guerrillas that were killed during this skirmish? I know as mentioned in the report that Jefferson Wilhite and Albert Estes were killed, if anyone has the names of the other three could I please have this info. I would like to locate these men's graves and photo-document their headstones if they exist. Thanks!
