Re: Why "Iron Brigade" for Shelby?
In Response To: Why "Iron Brigade" for Shelby? ()

After the bulk of the army moved east of the Mississippi River following the Battle of Pea Ridge, March 7-8, 1862, Shelby returned to Missouri and raised his own Regiment. Col. Shelby was soon placed in command of other regiments of cavalry from Missouri and the Iron Brigade was created. The name Iron Brigade stuck, as the name Copper Brigade was not in vogue.
