Re: Why "Iron Brigade" for Shelby?
In Response To: Why "Iron Brigade" for Shelby? ()

Red: In Deryl P. Sellmeyer's 2007 book "Jo Shelby's Iron Brigade," he indicates that the term "Iron Brigade" was first used to describe the brigade in John N. Edwards's chronicle, "Shelby and His Men," published in 1867. He notes that the veterans of the brigade did not use the appellation until after the publication of Edwards's book, so it appears to be a post-war name assignment.
