I've taken a closer look at that 1860 Johnson Co. census file that is posted online. Unfortunately it contains a gap of 38 pages/227 households immediately after the "Town of Columbus" entries before resuming in Knob Knoster. Columbus ends part way through a page, but that is normal since there are 40 entries per page and a new page is started for each new place. There are 87 names/14 households given for Columbus. However, that might just be the "Town of" vs. the whole township based on the wording of the transcribed census pages. I also notice that what should be prominent names present in the township 1860 per the History of JoCo are missing (Rice, Waldon, etc.) so I reason that much of the township itself is in the gap.

I don't know if the other pages are available anywhere or if their reels were unreadable or lost. There might be something left to research here.

So at this juncture, the census info for 1860 currently available cannot be used to say Tracy was elsewhere.
