I haven't followed closely the hunt for General Crabtree, so may be restating what is already known. If so, please let me know that so I don't waste time. The account ledgers show two different Crabtree officers in the 6th MSG. One is listed as L.P. Crabtree and the other is only listed as Crabtree.
The Hagens letter about his abduction includes two statements of interest. along with a list of men, some not noted in the earlier post. The Clark, Reavis, and Farmer families homesteaded in the bend of the Osage River in the 1830's. Although I haven't looked up every man listed in the letter, most of them bear familiar names for the Clark Township/Hickory Hill area. There are Crabtree family members in the area today, but I don't know if they have any connection to those who lived here long ago. No Crabtree is listed in the 1860 Census.
The group "stopped at Wm. Burris' house, Crabtree's father-in-law" and they "went 22 miles southwest." The statements suggest that the men stopped in the Tuscumbia area, at a homestead of Burrell Williamson Burris.
There are Missouri marriages recorded between three Burris sisters and Crabtree men, none in Miller County. One marriage that is noteworthy is Alice Burris to Abraham Crabtree in Cole County in 1829. He, like Captain Miller of Mount Pleasant, was an officer in the Blackhawk War. His death is "attributed to bushwhackers in the 1860's." I have a long-standing suspicion of those kinds of statements - too often used to conceal the facts. Abraham left Cole County before the War began.
Finally, I noted some travel for the Missouri families to Sebastian County, Arkansas. That was the only area I could locate an L.P. Crabtree. Since family names are often repeated over generations, it's possible there was a link between these groups.
