Yes, if the field burial was typical, he probably has his name/regiment hurriedly carved into a spare piece of wood and buried with him. I guess any scratch could turn the 5th into the 15th when he was relocated.

They had cedar markers after they were originally relocated to McGavok and those were replaced by small granite markers some time later.

I was going to look into replacing the existing granite marker (as a few others have done) since the text is almost worn smooth. We had to count from each direction of markers that were legible to verify his marker. So, I would like to get his regiment verified and corrected on his marker at the same time.

Lots of MS boys there, by far the most from any state.

There was a tour bus there and the guide was speaking of someone from GA who had found their relative there last year and made the pilgrimage to pay respects. When she was relocating in the cemetery, I told here we were there from OK on that very day for the same purpose. She stopped her group and allowed me to tell our 'story'.
