My first question is do you have his official records? If not, you should check them because he may have been in hospitals at Shelbyville or Winchester. He also could have died in route to Chattanooga after recuperating for a time in a field hospital. This is always one of the toughest parts of research. Jim Huffman's suggestion about the 29th Miss. history is a good one also because it should give the location of the regiment after it retreated from Murfreesboro. [I believe the brigage went to Shelbyville. The history of the 30th Miss. by Joe Ashley may also give some insight since they were in the same brigade. Look at the Author's on this message board.]
