My gggreat-grandfather was a young lad of 21 when he was
captured and sent toCamp Douglas. He got captured at home recuperating from wounds in March of 1864.He was first at Memphis then shipped to Camp Douglas in August of that year.He told my grandmother that they ate rats to stay alive there. I have read it and believe it,no doubt. She also said that even in his very old age "he hated Northerners". Who knows what those young men saw and endured, obviously enough to cause very strong feelings, right? Anyway, I was fortunate enough to talk to my grandmother and get some information to pass on down.
She did say he talked about Chickamauga alot. He was paroled at Douglas after the surender. Samuel Houston Lusk,
