Samuel Slade, age 24, resident of Marion County, Mississippi, enlisted as Private in Captain W. J. Rankin's Company F (Marion Men) , 7th Mississippi, on September 27, 1861 at Shieldsboro, hospitalized October 28, 1861, later furloughed and returned home where he stayed and never returned to his company, subsequently stricken from the rolls as a deserter April 17, 1862
