As I noted previously, I have seen the posting of a bond before, however, never saw evidence of same.

These may have been applied to those wishing to be released on taking the Oath of Allegiance to the US well
before wars end, not to POWs who waited out the war in prison.

Most of the time, those I've seen released before war's end, without bond, had to agree to stay north of the Ohio
River.
