Sorry to ask so many questions but this is the first time I have ever even looked at military records - much less civil war records. They are less than clear to me. So, do you think that the card that has a "B" at the top as if for company B and then it has William J. Beard, and then under his name someone has written "Conscript unassigned" (no idea what that phrase means) shows that he signed another oath of allegiance in May 1964? I only got about 5 or 6 documents for him in the M347 file from footnote so I guess you found the same??. I sure hope you are right as that will give me a place to try to search for him and if he did go to Tennessee that fits with family legend. The thing that is weird is that he a got a land grant in Jefferson county, MS in 1860. Wonder why he would leave the land?
