Re: Champion Hill "re-enactment"

The state does not own the site where this is going to take place. Sid Champion IV and family still own a lot of the Champion Hill battlefield. The state owns 750 acres plus or minus. The site where the guns will be is on private land owned by the Champion family. It is very near Sid Champion's old house that he built after his return. The original home site was burned by the Federal tropps and was at the site of a black church about one mile from the mound. This is not going to be a huge reenactment (skirmish) but any one is welcome to come. It is mainly to dedicate another historical marker on the battlefield. This one is for Midway Station. Last year we put one on the Hill of Death. I am donating a framed and matted page (cheap frame) of the Harper's Weekly, dated June 20, 1863. The top half depicts the burning of Jackson and the bottom half the battle of Champion Hill. It is an original page and not a repro. And yes the guns will not be facing the right way.
