Much appreciated, George. As I noted to Mitchell, I have no doubt that the "three" men of this name resolve into one. I had wondered if his apparent disappearance from the records was from fatality, but we now know he spent most of March 1865 in hospital. And yet I haven't picked him up in the census records after 1860. We have record of pay for signal corps svc 1 Sep-31 Oct 1863, but nil for the period thereafter, until March 1865, so Nov 63-Mar 65 is a blank. Still, if I have to return his file with gaps, I at least have important clarification and narrowed down the problem areas. Thanks for your help!
