Re: Buchanan of 1st Miss Inf (Johnston's)

Once I have an opportunity to review all this man's records, a clearer picture may emerge. Miscellaneous records include pay for service with Longstreet's Corps, Sept 22 to Oct. 1, 1862, and at Petersburg VA from Jan 1 to Mar 1 1863. He also has pay for May 1 to June 30, 1863.

Another record dated Feb. 17, 1864, shows him as AAIG (acting Assistant Adjutant General) of Gen. Philip D. Roddey's cavalry. S.O. 9 issued by Roddey on Jan. 31, 1864, Tuscumbia AL, directed Buchanan to report on the condition of Col. Patterson's command, then stationed at Smithville MS, enroute to Gadsden AL. Lt. Buchanan was paid for travel expenses from Tuscumbia (Roddey's HQ) to Gadsden and back.

Records of Roddey's command are scant, but Buchanan's name could appear in the Official Records in Roddey's correspondence from 1864.
