Alan, speaking of hospitals I have a question maybe you can answer. I have a Paternal 2nd great-uncle who was named Washington Lafayette Roberts. He was a sgt, in the 7th Mississippi Infantry and was promoted to Lt. shortly after Shiloh (May 1862 if I recall). He died September 15, 1862. According to his service file he died at Tompkinsville, Kentucky and about a month later his personal effects were claimed by his mother as the 7th Mississippi was camped in Tennessee.

Would you have any idea what hospital he might have been at. I have read some vague references to a "Wither's Hospital" somewhere around this time but I know nothing of it. Also, would he have been one of the deceased officers possibly buried at Silverdale Cemetery? Seems a long way from Tompkinsville to that spot.

We placed a V.A. memorial marker for him next to his mom and dad in Amite County, MS. but I would be forever grateful if you could possibly shed some light on this. This was a project Dr. Art Bergeron was going to help me with before he became ill and we lost him.
