It's really the other way around. There aren't going to be many Federal service files available in comparison to the Confederate records on file. The problem is that there are so many soldiers from Mississippi by this name that it's difficult to check into them all. If you knew the soldier's military unit, it would narrow the search considerably.

The 1860 census does show George Brown as a resident of Greene County MS, age 28 with wife Mary and family.
