The Mississippi in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Expert Opinion Required??? Your responses, ple

Mr. Pitts, I wrote the following in an earlier posting, hoping by chance you would see it and respond.

"Mr. Alan Pitts, in his reply to Mr. Brent Walker on Thursday, 14 June 1912, gave information on Company "E" of the 17th Mississippi Cavalry Battalion which merged into the 9th Mississippi Cavalry. I was wondering if Mr. Pitts had any other information pertaining to the men who served under Capt. Steede during that period of the war.
The reason I am asking is that my great, great grandfather, Samuel Herring, as well as my great grandfather, T. E. Hinton, both served with those companies. In requesting their records, the only information received on either was that of a Muster Roll. We have absolutely no record or information as to where they served and in what battles they might have fought.

Thank you."

I would appreciate learning if you, or anyone reading the message board have any information pertaining to the above.

P. S.: I failed to mention that they both lived in Perry County and would have more than likely enlisted at New Augusta.
