I mean ninteen ninty five...we arrived at V`burg on July 2nd, stayed that night at campground just North of town..did not have air conditioner in camper...it was very hot ended up sleeping on picnic table...so night of Jul 3rd we got a room at the old Vicksburg Hotel (they had a few B&B rooms) The room was great with bathroom as big as many motel rooms. Very early next AM we went down to the dinning room...they were not open yet so we bought a newspaper to see what celebrations would be scheduled...None were advertized..and we had noticed that we had heard no firecrackers since we arrived. When dinning room opened we found it was a very large room with portraits of Generals Lee and Jackson hanging on each end, white linen table cloths and set with nice china and silverware...We had figured our B&B would consist of a donut and coffee but waiter said we could order anything on the menu.

Our waiter was an older gentleman and my Bro. asked him why the paper had no mention of any celebrations...his respnse was "whats to celebrate, don`t you know thats the day we had to surrender to Grant and we have nothing to celebrate".
