Hi Mahlon, I'd have to acknowledge that as a truth. I suspect most ordinary Northern soldiers were fighting to "save the union"; it's unclear to me that they were fighting for other than geographical territory, however. There is a big difference, in my mind, between geographical union and the original "union" as an agreement between sovereign states for mutual benefit. The former was preserved; the latter was not.
