It is much the same here, Jamie. I've always been in favor of smaller, more representative, closer-to-home, government simply because it works out better for us common citizens. As you say, some ideas were not surrendered.

I read, recently, that one should expect to have their sanity questioned if one suggests that, had the war's outcome been t'other way round, things would still have worked out ok. :)
