It was the University of Illinois at Champaign who "retired" that great symbol of Chief Illinewk who represents the greatness of the Illini Indians who the state if named for. Illini in Algonquin means Men. I live in Sangamon County. Sangamon means Land of Plenty. I hope they don't find out about that or we will have to change the name of the county. :)
One of our local high schools used to be the Red Skins. They made them change that. another is the Pretzels. Another is the woodenshoes. They are OK. WHat do you think of that? :)
