Thanks, Jamie. Besides Old Pete, I was surprised to learn that John S. Mosby was also branded a Scalawag. I didn't know that. But I did know that he had a minor post in the Grant admin, so I should've connected the dots.
The book by W G Piston that we spoke of recently had a nice summation (which I'll hopefully accurately paraphrase) of Longstreet when it said that the Longstreet who wrote his problematic memoirs was not the same man who served so faithfully 1861-65, and that in the final analysis, Longstreet's own worst enemy turned out to be Longstreet himself.
